Life Lessons – Settlers style

February 23, 2006

Played a game of Settlers last night with my folks and Steph.

  • You shouldn’t go for a crazy port angle if the only two tiles you’ll start on is a Brick 4 and Sheep 11. (Dad’s played enough times to know better…)
  • Make sure someone knows that you rolled a seven before you try to take one of their cards. (Turns out Mom can get a little jumpy)
  • Building cities early… good. (Steph killed us)
  • Stretching your road across the middle of the board for Longest Road… also good. (Score for me)
  • Knowing by the second or third turn that your wife is going to run the table… bad.

We LOVE Settlers—I’m actually making a game out of Linoleum samples from Adam’s store. One of our friends “antiqued” our game by spilling coffee on it. This is definitely something we’re packing with us to Bolivia! Oh, our favorite game was played with Sondra (Johnson) Armstrong and her hubby from Germany (where the game originated)…turns out they call all the resources different names, but alas they still whooped us!

    I’ll take a wood for a brick.

Molly, great to hear from you! Jed and I have often talked about making our own sets. Look up Settlers of Catan in Google Images and you can see some pretty cool sets. Packing to Bolivia? What the? Start explaining (here or on your own blog)!
