TV, I know
it’s sad, but I must say, after a summer of work and homework and moving and whatever else, I’m looking forward to getting back into some high quality television shows.
Here’s the shows we care about (and pretty much all we watch) in the Hutchison household and why:
* “Amazing Race”:http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race10/ – premieres Sunday, September 17, 8:30pm — we dig world travel and learning (even if just a little) about other cultures; funny seeing the teams interact with those cultures (and themselves)
* “Survivor”:http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor13/ – premieres Thursday, Sept 14, 8pm — competition and chess like strategery, all while in the South Pacific. That and I love seeing the puzzles/games/obstacle courses that the Survivor crew comes up with.
* “House”:http://www.fox.com/house/ – premieres tomorrow night (Tues) at 8pm — the sarcasm and wit for me; Steph digs all the medical mumbo jumbo
* “Lost”:http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/ – premieres Wednesday, Oct 4, 9pm — simply the best storytelling done in recent memory

Full Circle 
House… or, what if Eli got a medical degree and became a respected diagnotician 25 years from now?
Lost – agreed, as long as we’re talking about the first season. Still only halfway through S2.
Not into the reality stuff lately, though I do confess enjoying Survivor in its hey day.
Best show currently on that I need like a bad drug? Battlestar Galactica. Darn cable.

Lost, yes all the way around. The last half of season 2 just tweaks with your head. It’s great.
I will be watching Lost, Amazing Race, Heroes (at least the first couple episodes), Earl/The Office, and I might check in with Studio 60 just to see what a train wreck looks like.
I am not planning on watching Survivor this time. I decided after the end of last season that I needed a break.
Fogey, forgot to ask, what is it about Battlestar Galactica that prompts narcotic similes?
Its relationships you want to see more of. Its characters you want to see what happens to. Its nods to the old series. Its questions like, “How do we deal with creatures that are humans built by robots?” It’s the best and worst of people coming out in crisis. Its great sci fi from one of the talents of TNG and DS9. Great stuff.
Definitely not for the kiddies though – PG-13 for some dark stuff.
I’d just stick to House and Lost. Battlestar Galactica…hmm. If a TV show makes me think twice about watching it, that’s a recommendation to avoid if I ever read one.
I’ll agree with Boy o’ Sloth about The Office, though. And if you can find it, check out the BBC series Extras.
All of this is coming from a man who watches Smackdown! every week, so your mileage may vary.

I wasn’t going to jump into the BSG conversation but I can’t resist sharing my opinion.
The first season was very nearly crap. I liked 60% of it and the other 40% made me fly into a white hot rage due to its relative stupidity. (Ask Fogey about unabashedly ripped off storylines and “meat asteroids”)
Season two though? I think the writers on break from season one sat down and mapped out exactly what they wanted to do with the show and how they wanted to accomplish it. Season 2 grabbed my sloth-nuggets and didn’t let go for a second. They manage to completely blur all the lines that they established in the first season (who is bad? who is good? why do I care if they rape a cylon?) and leave your head spinning in that delicious roller-coaster sorta way.
We’ll see if they can keep their momentum.

Being a lover of all things hero I will have to say I cannot wait until Smallville starts. I know what you are thinking. Typical Girl superhero show because of , well Clark Kent and his chisled features. And it is true I am drawn to that, however I do like the whole story.
Incidently there is a new show coming out called “Heroes” on NBC that I will be checking out.
In other news… I also am excited to watch CSI the original one. Not Miami or New York. I love Grissom! And somehow the gorey bodies are overlooked by the strong desire to figure out the cases before the CSIs do.
I am also pretty sure I may be picking up some new random shows as I just got cable and DVR. Oh the evilness of TV. Its taking over everything….
The only reality that does anything for me is Idol, which we aren’t gonna have any of ‘til January, apparently.

House is great on almost every level.
And Battlestar Galactica… a series where the creator admits that he wanted to do the stuff that Star Trek was unwilling/unable to do. And Fogey’s fiancée would pry punch me for saying it, but I like Col. Tigh way better than Riker. Ha.
I was presented with a copy of the Heroes pilot that leaked onto the internet. Slothgirl and I watched it.
It fully rocks. Hard core. Expectations = met.
