Beach Lessons

October 9, 2006

Lessons recently learned from “taking my daughter to the Oregon coast”: with us:

* No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to keep sand out of the mouth and/or eyes of a 15 month old child.

* If you “leave a sandal unattended, it will get buried”:

* If you scout out a path through the inch high tide, you will be able to feel your feet when you reach the higher sand. If you do not, your feet will be numb. Guaranteed.

* Even if it looks dry, if you sit on a towel that is on the ‘wet half’ of the sand, the water will soak through and get your butt wet.

* When a small child has no concept of just how big the water she’s looking at is, she will be more interested in the people and doggies running along the beach.

* A body of water, no matter how vast, will always been seen as a bath tub.

* No matter how hard you try, a toddling child will inevitably sit bum- first in the water.

* Even if she doesn’t really understand the concept of an ocean, it’s still a blast to take your kid to the beach.
