I’m a big fan of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Y’all know that.  But I don’t know if I could live like the folks in the books.  It’d be cool at first.  But it might get old.

At work, we see all sorts of blueprints.  Big houses, little houses, custom houses that are stupid, custom houses that are amazing.  And some of them, well, they’re just plain unique.

We recently got in the blueprints for the Swordsmen Cottage.  Which is one of the many homes in The Shire, Place of Enchantment in Bend, Oregon.  I’m not making this up.  Take a stroll around.  An entire community.  With stuff straight out of Hobbiton.

Only in the Northwest.

While a little over the top, still a great concept. A little creativity/personality is way better than the cookie cutter housing developments. I’m sure it’ll produce far more pride and personal committment to the community for those who live there. My guess is it’ll be a little expensive.

Point well made. If you look in the Forum on the site, the homes are expected to run $375k-$500k.

All I know is that this plan is really lame to work on. I’m busy working away on the material take-off list here at the ol’ work-o, and everything is custom, along with a bunhc of differet wall heights and beams and posts intersecting every which way. Not good times, if you ask me.
