Lacrosse done for

October 23, 2007

What is this, baseball?

2008 season cancelled

Seriously, this is lacrosse.  It does not have a big enough following to come back from this with any success.  Or maybe because it doesn’t have a big following, it can come back… who knows?

“I would like to apologize to our fans fan, first and foremost”, said NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings.

gah! apparently the strikethrough html tags don’t work in comments. Pretend there was a line drawn through “fans” up above. Trust me, it’s funnier that way.

Your a week late on this. Also I’m still too mad to comment. You were going to get a team out there in Boston too this year. Boston Blazers kinda of ironic.

And Ian resurfaces! Great to hear from you. Yeah, I know I’m late. I just found out about it. I was jazzed about the Boston team too. They were going to play in the same arena as the Celtics, which is super accessible for us. I assume they refunded your season ticket money?

Slothy, yes, I could see how it’s funnier that way.

Kind of an interesting quote from Brad Bannister, owner of the Calgary Roughnecks:

“We take these guys out of fringe lacrosse leagues, pay them $2,000 American, or more, a night, fly them in and out, put them up. That’s a little better than the summer leagues they’re used to playing in for $100 a game. In this league, they play where the Iginlas do, where the Michael Jordans used to. They practice once a week. This league put them on TV. Made them local celebrities. On weekends, they come in from their real jobs and they’re treated like rock stars. Kids ask for their autographs. Girls chase them around bars. And they’re willing to jeopardize that?”

Anyway, here’s the Molo take: Asking for 4 raises in 7 years seems pretty normal when you’re working a standard 9-5 job, but when you make 2000 a night to play the game you love…madness.

It’s back on. The league and players union reached an 7-year deal.
