So Lent started yesterday. And in the fashion of Señor Ryan, I am giving up something that I enjoy daily that has come to be a huge part of my daily routine.
For those not in the know, here you go:
Blogs, comic strips, just about any website these days, put out what’s called a RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. You can choose to “subscribe” to these feeds. This lets “feed” programs/sites like Google Reader go out and collect any and all updates and brings them to a central location. So, any time a friend updates a blog, a few hours later, I’m notified and can read the update right from Reader. When you’re like me and you have 79 subscriptions, this can save a lot of time. Especially because I had Google Reader set up on my Google Homepage (sorry, still have trouble calling it iGoogle. Little too Mac-ish for me).
So there you go. I’m still going to be blogging in the next 40 days and will still check the occasional blog (manually! oh no! 🙂 ), but hopefully, this will teach me that I can exist quite fine without being updated every five minutes when something or someone in the world has changed. Jesus, be glorified by my use of my time.
