Thinkers

April 30, 2007

Master juggler Laura (she of Adventures in Juggling fame) said some very nice things about me. And the bit about me not blogging thought provoking stuff as often as I may have in the past… true. Need to fix that. But in good meme fashion, I pass the buck. Folks that make me think:

(not to the exclusion of others, simply the first five I could think of stuff to write about)

  • Bobby Grow
    • The guy posts parts of his master’s thesis. Takes his theology seriously and isn’t ashamed of it. Follows up comments with fantastic questions and equally fantastic responses. My head is often swimming after the first read thru of a post. Starts to make sense on the second or third.
  • Ryan Donovan
    • While he’ll occasionally give you the “I almost burnt down my kitchen” post, I can usually find here some captivating thoughts on what the Kingdom should maybe look like. He’s quiet in person, but boy, get him writing, and he comes up a winner every time.
  • Jen Leeper
    • Good friend who now lives her life serving God in Thailand, hanging out with, and teaching English, to college students. Often writes of one of two things: 1) how freakin’ hot it is in Thailand and why it’s good that Chang Mai has a week long, city wide water fight or 2) what it’s like to live in another country and serve the Lord. Makes me long for the mission field.
  • Scot McKnight
    • The penultimate of what I aspire to be. Thought provoking, respected by all, fantastic Bible study scholar who teaches at a seminary and loves the church (both mega- and emering). His daily Bible studies (read: commentaries practically) are gold.
  • Defective Yeti
    • While being the funniest site on the internet that I regularly read, Matthew Baldwin also happens to be incredibly gifted as a writer and explainer of all things political. Good to read an articulate occasionally political mind that I disagree with most of the time.

Hey, bro, thanks for the shout-out but my Dean will be quick to point out that I’m not a seminary professor. Just a college prof!

I feel like I’ve been nominated for a Hutchy. Kinda like the Oscars, but of another sphere. And the Hutchy goes to… Well, probably not me, but hey, I’m just glad to be nominated. Oh, and while you’re passing bucks around, don’t forget where my desk is located. You are welcome to leave as many bucks as you’d like.
